About Us

ourkithab is a free Quran reading and audio app, built for Sri Lanka's Tamil, Sinhala and English-speaking Muslim community — available on the web and as an Android app.

What we built

All 114 Surahs of the Quran, verse by verse, in Arabic with audio recitation from multiple reciters and English, Tamil & Sinhala translation. A Hifz-focused Quarter Juz curriculum for memorization, prayer times sourced from ACJU for all 13 Sri Lanka zones, and a new verse to reflect on every day.

Why we built it

Most Quran apps translate into English, Urdu or Arabic-adjacent languages first — Tamil and Sinhala are often an afterthought, if they're there at all. ourkithab exists to put Sri Lanka's own languages, and ACJU's own prayer times, at the center rather than the edge. It's free, has no ads, and doesn't collect personal data — see the Privacy Policy for details.

Where the translations come from

ourkithab does not produce its own translation of the Quran. Every translation shown is an existing published work, served through the Quran Foundation Content API — the same source used by Quran.com — and credited to its translator on every Surah page. The Arabic is the Uthmani script text from that same source.

Prayer times are not calculated by us either: they are scraped from the All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama's own published monthly timetables for each of the 13 zones. See the prayer times page for the source link.
